If you browse without an account: your chosen location and saved shops are stored in your own browser and are never sent to us. We also collect anonymous, aggregated page statistics that cannot identify you.

If you create an account: your email address, a display name, your saved home location, the shops you follow, and your alert preferences.

If you claim a shop: the information you provide to verify that you work there, plus anything you publish on the listing — description, contact details, opening hours, photos and updates.

We never ask for or store card or banking details. If paid subscriptions are introduced, payments will be handled by a licensed payment provider and card data will never reach our servers.

To operate your account, show shops near you, deliver the alerts you asked for, verify shop ownership, and keep the service secure. We process this information because it is necessary to provide a service you have asked for, and, for alerts, because you have consented.

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the providers that run the service on our behalf: Supabase (accounts and database), Vercel (hosting and anonymous analytics), and OpenStreetMap tile servers, which receive map requests from your browser. Some of these process data outside South Africa; POPIA permits this where the receiving country or provider offers comparable protection.

Most listings are imported from OpenStreetMap, an open public database, and contain business information rather than personal information. If you are connected to a listed business and want it corrected or removed, contact us — though the underlying record on OpenStreetMap is outside our control and should be corrected there as well.

Account information is kept while your account is open. Delete your account and we remove your profile, favourites and alert preferences. Content you published on a shop listing may remain, since it describes a business rather than you.

Under POPIA you may ask what personal information we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, object to how we use it, and withdraw consent to alerts at any time. Email hello@thriftingglobal.com and we will respond within a reasonable period.

If you believe we have mishandled your information, you may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa at inforegulator.org.za.

We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. Signing in sets a cookie that keeps you signed in. Your location and favourites are stored in your browser's local storage. Our analytics are cookieless and aggregated, which is why you are not asked to accept a cookie banner.

This service is not intended for children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
